Some politicians call him "the next President of Ukraine" due to his popularity. Vitalii Kim calls today's attack the "personal vendetta" and the "evidence of Russia's inability to take control over the city and region.

The previous heavy fight for the city was reported on March 8th, when Russian forces heavily shelled the town and barracks with Ukrainian soldiers from the 79th brigade. On the same day, they tried to attack the city from 3 directions but were stopped by the Territorial defense forces and the Ukrainian army, according to the UNIAN news agency.
